From Farm to Trail: How SPhiker Supports Local Farmers

At SPhiker and Woodlane Orchard, we believe that every meal should tell a story—one that connects the trail to the farm, and the farmer to you. Our commitment to sustainability goes hand in hand with our dedication to supporting local farmers. In this blog, we’ll share the stories of our partners, their sustainable practices, and how our collaboration is making a difference in reducing food waste and bolstering local economies.

The Heart of Our Mission: Supporting Local Farmers

SPhiker and Woodlane Orchard partners with a diverse network of local farmers who are passionate about their craft and dedicated to sustainable agriculture. These farmers grow a variety of produce, from vibrant vegetables to juicy fruits, all with a focus on quality and sustainability. By sourcing surplus produce, we not only help reduce waste but also create a meaningful connection between the food on your plate and the land it comes from.

Meet Our Farmers

1. Ian's Farm
Located just 15 minutes from our processing facility, Ian's Farm specializes in pumpkin, zucchini and peaches. Ian often has a surplus of beautiful, ripe produce that he cannot find a traditional market for. By partnering with SPhiker and Woodlane Orchard, Ian can transform this surplus into delicious dehydrated meals, ensuring that nothing goes to waste.

2. Green Valley Strawberries
Green Valley Strawberries have some of the best strawberries in the region but due to weather, supply over-abundance and other factors, they frequently have surplus or 2nds strawberries requiring a home.  With SPhiker and Woodlane Orchard, these surplus berries are dried and used in our punches and fruit salads, providing nutritious options for adventurers.

Reducing Food Waste

Food waste is a pressing issue, with nearly one-third of all food produced globally going uneaten. By collaborating with local farmers to utilize their surplus produce, SPhiker and Woodlane Orchard is actively working to combat this waste. Our dehydrating process not only preserves the freshness and flavor of the fruits and vegetables but also extends their shelf life, turning potential waste into valuable meals. Each bag of SPhiker’s dehydrated food represents a reduction in food waste, helping to create a more sustainable food system.

Supporting Local Economies

When you choose SPhiker or Woodlane Orchard, you’re not just enjoying a convenient and nutritious meal; you’re also supporting local economies. By sourcing directly from farmers, we help ensure they receive fair compensation for their hard work. This partnership fosters economic resilience in our communities, allowing farmers to invest in their practices, hire local workers, and contribute to the overall well-being of the region.

The Trail Connection

Our journey from farm to trail is not just about the food; it’s about the stories and connections forged along the way. Every time you pack a SPhiker meal for your outdoor adventure, you carry with you the essence of local farming, sustainability, and community support. You’re not just a consumer; you’re part of a movement that values the environment and the people who work it.

Conclusion

At SPhiker and Woodlane Orchard, we are proud to support local farmers and promote sustainable practices that benefit our environment and communities. By choosing our dehydrated meals, you’re joining us in reducing food waste and uplifting local economies. Together, we can make a difference—one meal at a time. So, the next time you hit the trail, remember that every bite of SPhiker food is a step towards a more sustainable future. Happy adventuring!
